Children's services

Personalised, compassionate support for children and young people at home, at school and in the community — built around each child’s strengths, needs and aspirations, and around the family around them.

At Nationwide Care Services we provide personalised, compassionate support for children and young adults with a range of care and support needs. We understand that every child is unique.

Our approach focuses on the individual child — recognising their strengths, needs, interests and aspirations — while working closely with families and professionals to provide safe, consistent and nurturing support. Our aim is to help children and young people feel safe, valued and listened to, while developing their confidence, independence and life skills.

Support built around the individual child

We take the time to understand each child’s personality, communication style, routines, preferences and interests. Support is then tailored around their individual circumstances and the outcomes agreed with the family and the professionals involved.

Complex and specialist needs

Some children and young people need a higher level of support because of complex physical, developmental, behavioural or clinical needs. Our teams provide personalised support based on an individual’s assessed needs and care plan.

Where specialist or clinical interventions are required, we work collaboratively with relevant healthcare professionals and other services so that care is appropriately planned and coordinated. We understand how much consistency, familiar routines and trusted relationships matter when supporting a child with complex needs.

Confidence, skills and independence

Our goal is to help children and young people develop skills and confidence appropriate to their age and abilities. We encourage participation in everyday activities, and support young people to develop communication, decision-making, self-care and social interaction.

As young people grow, their needs and aspirations change. We adapt support to help them prepare for greater independence and for the important transitions in their lives.

Working in partnership with families

Supporting a child is also about supporting their family. We work in partnership with parents, carers and families, listening to their experience and making sure their knowledge and involvement are valued.

Our support can give families additional reassurance and practical assistance, including respite where appropriate, while keeping the child’s wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.

Coordinated with everyone involved

Effective children’s care usually involves several people and organisations. Where appropriate we work alongside social workers, healthcare professionals, schools, therapists, commissioners and other relevant services to provide coordinated support.

We maintain clear communication and contribute to regular reviews, so that care remains appropriate as a child’s needs develop.

Safety, dignity and wellbeing

The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is central to our approach. Our care is built around appropriate safeguarding, risk management, care planning and ongoing review.

We aim to create supportive environments where children feel respected, heard and encouraged to express their views — protecting each child’s dignity, privacy and rights while promoting positive experiences and opportunities.

Preparing for adulthood

The move from childhood into adulthood can be a significant period of change. We support young people to develop practical skills, confidence and greater independence as they prepare for the next stage of their lives, focused on their own aspirations and on a more independent future.

Every child and young person should have the opportunity to feel safe, develop their potential and experience a meaningful quality of life. We provide care with compassion, professionalism and respect, tailored around each individual child and their family.

How it works

  1. We listen first

A conversation with you about your child’s personality, communication, routines, preferences and interests — with the child involved wherever they want to be.

  2. A plan built around the child

Support tailored to assessed needs and agreed outcomes, with safeguarding, risk and daily routines considered from the start.

  3. A small, familiar team

Consistency matters most, so we keep the team around your child small and introduce anyone new gradually, at their pace.

  4. Coordinated with everyone involved

Clear communication with families, social workers, schools, therapists and health professionals, and contributions to formal reviews.

  5. Reviewed as your child grows

Support is adapted as needs and aspirations change, including planning early for the transition into adulthood.

Common questions

How do you decide what support my child needs?

We start by getting to know your child — their personality, communication style, routines, preferences and interests — and by listening to you. Support is then tailored around their individual circumstances, their assessed needs and the outcomes agreed with everyone involved.

Can you support a child with complex or clinical needs?

Yes. We provide personalised support based on an individual’s assessed needs and care plan. Where specialist or clinical interventions are required, we work collaboratively with the relevant healthcare professionals and services so that care is properly planned and coordinated.

Are your staff checked to work with children?

Yes. Everyone supporting children holds an enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list clearance, and safeguarding training is refreshed every year.

Will my child see the same support workers?

Wherever possible, yes. Consistency, familiar routines and trusted relationships make the biggest difference to children, so we keep teams small and introduce new workers gradually rather than changing faces week to week.

Do you offer respite for parents and carers?

Yes, where it forms part of the agreed support. Families tell us that reliable, planned respite is often what makes the rest of the week work — and it is arranged around your child’s wellbeing, not around a rota.

Do you work with schools, social workers and other professionals?

Yes. Where appropriate we work alongside social workers, healthcare professionals, schools, therapists and commissioners, keeping communication clear and contributing to regular reviews so that care stays appropriate as your child’s needs develop.

Can you support the move into adult services?

Yes. We support young people to build the practical skills, confidence and independence they need for the next stage of their lives, and we plan for that transition early rather than at the last minute.

How is children’s care funded?

Some families pay privately, many use direct payments or a personal budget from the local authority, and complex health packages may be NHS-funded. We can talk you through what applies in your situation.

Free assessment. No obligation.

We will tell you what is genuinely needed, even when that is less than you asked for.
